… The only part of the (very) campy movie that bugs you is that one of the characters formatted their manuscript wrong.
I went to see Argylle this weekend. For those of you who haven’t seen it, Argylle is about a spy novelist who meets the main character she’s spent four novels writing about and is pulled into a mission spanning the globe. The movie’s an action-comedy with a similar feel to the TV series I reviewed earlier, Daughter of Lupin. At least if Lupin had a body count to rival Red, with fight scenes reminiscent of Kingsmen: The Secret Service.
Not only is it a fun movie, but it’s great for a date night.
What impressed me, though, was the main character, Elly Conway. Or rather, the actor who Played her, Bryce Dallas Howard. Bryce isn’t your typical action heroine. She doesn’t have the athlete’s body of Rei, or the top-heavy strength of Lara Croft. She’s a touch overweight, a little out of shape, can’t bench-press John Cena, and more than a little overwhelmed by everything.
In other words, she’s a real person.
Sam Rockwell isn’t exactly your typical action movie leading man, for that matter. He’s a little on the old side, a little on the short side, and is no John Cena for Bryce to bench press.
He is, once again, a real person.
And, of course, there’s the movie’s real hero, Alfie (see cover image).
